I did a comprehensive women’s health exam during my stay in Bursa. In just 1-1/2 days I did blood tests, ultrasounds, body composition/scans, treadmill test, stool test, mammogram and saw an internal medicine doctor, cardiologist (twice), radiologist, dietician, dermatologist, ophthalmologist, and gynecologist. And all for just $900 USD! Every doctor and nurse I can upon was so friendly and professional. It was so efficient and extremely affordable. I could never imagine doing this in the US. The hospital was so nice, clean and equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. Not able to speak a word of Turkish, I had a translator with me at all times. Thank you, Melih Kayra, for helping me along every step of the way. Overall, I had an amazing experience.

Exceptional Care That Changed My View of Healthcare Forever I recently underwent medically necessary kidney stone surgery for 6 cm of stones in my right kidney. After assessment in the United States, even with insurance, I was quoted $30,000 which included cost of insurance, deductible and my responsibility cost after deductible, and that was before realizing the procedure would be more complex than initially expected. After weeks of careful research, I found Dr. Arif Demirbaş and chose to have my surgery at Doruk Hospital in Turkey. That decision turned out to be one of the best I have ever made. From the moment I arrived, the experience was truly exceptional. I was picked up and supported every step of the way by my personal translator, who helped me understand every conversation, every decision, and every stage of the process. This alone removed so much fear and uncertainty. Dr. Demirbaş personally visited me multiple times before and after surgery, taking real time to explain the procedure, the added complexity, and my recovery. His professionalism, clarity, and compassion were outstanding. The nursing staff provided the highest level of care I have ever experienced. Anytime I had pain or needed assistance, they were there immediately. This was a stark contrast to a previous U.S. hospital experience where I was left in agonizing post-surgical pain and told I could “walk on my own” despite asking for help. That will never leave me—and it makes the difference here even more profound. The hospital itself is state-of-the-art and honestly felt more like a 5-star hotel than a medical facility. I had: A private room My own bathroom with a shower A large TV A closet and mini-fridge Luxury towels, bathrobe, and slippers (shown in the photos) The food was fresh, delicious, and plentiful. When I asked for more, they happily provided two full meals, three times a day, without hesitation. Even after discharge, the care didn’t stop. I still have direct access to my translator for questions to the doctor, recovery concerns, or even just check-ins on how I’m feeling. The kindness and genuine compassion shown to me throughout this journey has been deeply moving. In total, I spent 7 days at Doruk Hospital, and the entire cost out-of-pocket was $6,250—nearly 6 times less than the U.S. estimate, with exponentially better care, comfort, and dignity. Traveling abroad for surgery can feel intimidating, but I can honestly say this experience was a godsend. I will never choose a U.S. hospital again if I can avoid it. If you are from the U.S. and facing overwhelming medical costs—even with insurance—come here. You will be grateful you did, both financially and emotionally. I am eternally grateful to Dr. Arif Demirbaş, the nurses (Gizem, Aydanur, Ebru, Esra, Berre, Habibe, Aynur, and Sena), my translator (Albina), and the entire Doruk Hospital staff for their excellence, humanity, and compassion. The staff are very thorough and caring, the facility is new and well equipped, prices are reasonable, rooms are spacious and had lovely views. Location is great and central with everything you need within a walking distance. Meals were free for the patient and a companion or 2. We stayed for a couple of weeks for physical rehabilitation for my parent and thankfully he benefited and was better after the treatment program. My experience of the hospital was build on three people my surgeon Dr Furkan, my translator Melih and a nurse who literally saved my life, Sumeyye. All three of them went above and beyond to ensure I was safe, well and looked after. Some of the hospital practices I didn't agree with and was different to what I had originally agreed to but Melih worked hard to try and get around any obstacles I faced...even staying with me overnight to ensure I was getting the nursing care I needed. All in all a great team.
