I recently visited American Hospital Istanbul for a full medical check-up and had the pleasure of being seen by Dr. Burçin Sağlam Kurtoğlu (Internal Medicine Specialist). She was truly amazing — professional, caring, and very detailed in her explanations. Dr. Burçin took the time to go through every part of my medical history and results, explained everything clearly in English, and gave me thoughtful, personalized advice. Her calm attitude and genuine care made me feel completely comfortable and confident throughout the visit. I also want to give special thanks to Mr. Youcef, the translator and coordinator who assisted me. He was incredibly kind and helpful, handled all the administrative steps smoothly, and made sure everything went perfectly from start to finish. I had a terrible experience at this hospital. They had placed a kettle and flimsy cardboard cups in a patient room — an extremely unsafe setup — and because of this negligence, boiling tea spilled all over my legs. My jeans melted and stuck to my skin, and I was left writhing in pain for hours as the skin on my leg peeled off. The ER staff clearly had no idea what they were doing — nothing they tried helped until a different doctor finally stepped in. They then told me to return the next day to see a professor, who applied a silver bandage that actually made the burn worse. For a private hospital, the lack of safety and the poor level of care were shocking. We were even charged despite being in the yellow zone, and only after complaining did they admit it was a mistake and promise a refund.

I had a medical emergency while travelling in Istanbul on a Saturday. Our private guide directed us to the emergency department, where I was promptly seen, without any time whatsoever spent in a waiting room. The hospital was clean, and the staff was nice. I was assessed almost immediately by the ER nurse and doctor, following which I was promptly taken to the GI Department where, as luck would have it Doctor/Prof. Tan Attila happened to be running clinic. I cannot overstate how amazing Doctor/Prof. Tan Attila was. He quickly assessed my problem and took action. He was kind, caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable. I was absolutely blown away by his service. The surgical/endoscopy room staff (including anesthesia) were all fantastic, as well. I highly recommend this hospital in a time of need, but I, above all else, would absolutely recommend that anyone who as needs try to see Doctor/Prof. Tan Attila. He is absolutely phenomenal.

We were advised by our travel insurance company to go here to see a Dr as were flying to Australia the following day. My partner was ordered an unnecessary MRI scan - had a CT scan immediately afterwards in sane region. You DO NOT NEED an MRI and a CT scan. You DO NOT do an MRI first. As a fully trained and very experienced Emergency Nurse - I know this to be fact. They were not interested in hearing from me about this and the only way we could get a fit to fly certificate was to suck it up! This meant we were overcharged - around $USD 1,200! A complete scam. Avoid at all costs and our insurance company have been informed of this so no other unsuspecting traveller has a bad experience. The clinical team in the ED should be ashamed. Not a good way to end a great holiday in Turkey. Has completely put us off ever visiting again.
