Dr Utkan Topcu

Dr Utkan Topçu is a specialist neurosurgeon with a particular interest in spinal surgery, minimally invasive techniques and the management of complex brain conditions. Born in Düzce in 1985, he completed his medical degree at Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Medicine in 2009 and went on to train in Neurosurgery at Eskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine, where he finished his residency in 2020.

During and after his specialist training, Dr Topçu gained broad experience in both emergency and elective neurosurgery. He has worked at Bursa Çekirge State Hospital and Bursa City Hospital, managing a wide range of neurosurgical cases including spinal trauma, degenerative spine disease, brain haemorrhages and neuro-oncological conditions. His practice places strong emphasis on careful diagnosis, appropriate use of advanced imaging and choosing the least invasive effective treatment for each patient.

Dr Topçu is committed to continuous professional development and international standards in neurosurgery. He successfully passed the written qualification exam of the Turkish Neurosurgical Society in 2019 and completed the basic training course organised by the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) in 2020. He has also taken part in a series of advanced courses, including modules of the Turkish Neurosurgical Society stepwise training programme, Dr Mehmet Zileli’s Advanced Spinal Surgery course, and dedicated courses on osteotomy techniques, haemostasis in spine surgery and minimally invasive spinal instrumentation.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Topçu has contributed to the scientific literature in his field. His publications and presentations cover topics such as paraarticular osteochondroma of the lumbar facet joint associated with radiculopathy, minimally invasive percutaneous instrumentation in vertebral fractures, rare brain tumours such as polymyxoid astrocytoma, and medical and surgical management algorithms for intracranial haemorrhages in paediatric neurology. He is an active member of the Turkish Neurosurgical Association and the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies.
