Prof Suleyman Engin Akhan

Professor Dr Süleyman Engin Akhan is a distinguished obstetrician and gynaecologist at Istanbul University, Faculty of Medicine, where he serves as a senior faculty member in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Born in 1966 in Manisa, Türkiye, he combines decades of clinical experience with a strong academic background, caring for women across all stages of life with a focus on safety, ethics and evidence-based practice. Prof. Akhan completed his secondary and high school education at Saint Benoît French Boys’ High School in Istanbul between 1977 and 1985. He went on to study medicine at Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine, graduating in 1992.

He then undertook his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine between 1993 and 1997, and in the same year was awarded the title of Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Following his specialist qualification, Prof. Akhan continued his academic and clinical career at Istanbul University. He served as Chief Assistant in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology from November 1997 to March 2003, progressing to Associate Professor in 2003 and being promoted to Full Professor in 2009. Throughout this period he has been actively involved in high-risk pregnancy care, gynaecological surgery, labour management and the full spectrum of women’s health services offered by a university hospital setting. Alongside his clinical work, Professor Dr Süleyman Engin Akhan is deeply engaged in medical education and mentoring the next generation of doctors.

As a long-standing faculty member at Istanbul University, he regularly teaches medical students and residents, contributes to departmental training programmes and participates in academic activities within the field of obstetrics and gynaecology.
