Prof Sevim Çakmak

Professor Dr Sevim Çakmak is an experienced ophthalmologist and oculoplastic surgeon with over 25 years of clinical and academic practice. She currently sees patients in her own private clinic, offering comprehensive eye care with a particular focus on eyelid and orbit disorders, lacrimal system problems and complex oculofacial trauma. Following her graduation from Dicle University Faculty of Medicine in 1993, where she finished second in her class, Prof. Çakmak completed her specialist training in Ophthalmology at the same institution in 1998.

She then worked as a Research Assistant and Specialist in the Department of Ophthalmology at Dicle University, progressing to Assistant Professor and later Associate Professor. In 2011 she was awarded the title of Full Professor in Ophthalmology at Harran University Faculty of Medicine. Throughout her career, Prof. Çakmak has combined university-based medicine with high-volume clinical practice. She served for many years in the Ophthalmology Departments of Dicle University and Harran University, and later continued her work at leading private hospitals including Dünya Göz Hospital Istanbul and Medical Park Bahçelievler, before establishing her own practice in 2020. She has also undertaken dedicated training in the Oculoplastic Unit of Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, further deepening her expertise in eyelid, orbital and lacrimal surgery. Prof. Çakmak has an extensive academic portfolio.

She has supervised multiple postgraduate theses on topics such as strabismus surgery, endocanalicular laser dacryocystorhinostomy, evisceration techniques, congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction and ptosis surgery outcomes. She has led and contributed to national research projects, including studies on laser treatment after cataract surgery and optical coherence tomography in transient ischaemic attacks. Her scientific presentations at national congresses and symposia cover key areas of oculoplastic surgery, eyelid tumours, eyelid trauma, lacrimal drainage surgery and emergency ophthalmology. In addition to her clinical and academic roles, Prof. Çakmak has held important administrative positions. She has served as Treasurer and Web Officer, and later Branch President, of the Turkish Ophthalmological Association (Diyarbakır branch). At Harran University Faculty of Medicine, she worked as Year 5 Coordinator and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, contributing to both medical education and departmental leadership.
