Dr Alp Gurbet

Prof Dr Alp Gurbet is a senior anaesthesiologist and pain medicine specialist (algologist) with over 20 years of academic and clinical experience in the management of acute and chronic pain. Born in Istanbul in 1970, he completed his pre-university education in the same city before starting medical school at Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine in 1987, graduating in 1993 with the title of Medical Doctor.

After completing his compulsory service and military duty between 1993 and 1998, Prof Dr Gurbet returned to Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine to begin his residency in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Reanimation. He completed his specialist training in December 2002 and continued to work in the same faculty, joining the Algology (Pain) Clinic, where he focused his practice on the diagnosis and treatment of complex pain conditions.

His academic career progressed steadily: he was appointed Assistant Professor in 2007, Associate Professor in 2010 and Full Professor in 2017. In 2008, Prof Dr Gurbet passed the Algology Board Examination organised by the Turkish Algology – Pain Society and received his formal Board Certification in pain medicine. In 2012, he completed his subspecialty training in Algology, further consolidating his expertise in advanced pain management techniques, including interventional procedures and spinal cord stimulation.

Prof Dr Alp Gurbet has an active scientific profile, with 23 publications in international journals and 18 publications in Turkish journals. He is a member of several national and international professional societies, including the Turkish Algology – Pain Society, the Turkish Anaesthesiology and Reanimation Society, the Regional Anaesthesia Society, the World Institute of Pain and the European Society of Regional Anaesthesia. Fluent in English, he continues his professional work at Uludağ University, where he is involved in patient care, teaching and research.

In his daily practice, Prof Dr Gurbet focuses on a personalised, multidisciplinary approach to pain. His main areas of specialisation include algology (pain medicine) and spinal cord stimulation. Every treatment decision is based on a detailed clinical assessment and current scientific evidence, with the aim of improving patients’ quality of life while maintaining realistic expectations and a strong emphasis on safety.
